Unfortunatly no space for digital nomads. Desks are only rentable on a monthly basis. If WeWork wouldn't specificly advertise with flexible Hot desking, I wouldn't mind, but....

Read more After creating a Meetup group, “Things to do in Seoul”, I received many notifications from Meetup prompting me to organize a Meetup at one of their WeWork location. Finally, earlier this week, I gave in and decided to check out if it was really possible to hold an event at a WeWork free of charge. I follow the link to book a space and it took me to a calendar where I could choose a preferred date. I chose a date in September and it told me there was 1 space available, WeWork Samseong. After verifying that the location would work for my meetup, I proceed with the booking. It gave me to option to choose a space for under 25 people and one for up to 100. I chose the larger space. I completed the form and hit submit. I received an email confirmation stating that I would hear back from the Samseong manager within 48 hours. When I did not hear back from anyone, I went back to Meetup to look at the calendar again to see if a space at a WeWork near me became available and there was a space at the WeWork Gwanghwamun which is close to my office and on a more desirable date so I decided to book that one as well. When I didn’t hear from Gwanghwamun either after the 48hrs had elapsed, I called the office and spoke to Sohyun Kim. She stated that she had not received my request from Meetup and she’d look into it. When I said I’d like to come check the space out, she said come in and we’ll discuss my request in person. So, she let me take time out of my schedule to come knowing ahead of time that she would not honor my request. When I got there she explained first of all she didn’t receive any confirmation from Meetup that someone had booked the space. Even so, there is no space available on the date I requested in September. I asked about October. She said they are fully booked both months. I believe that she was being less than truthful because before telling me the spaces were not available, she said she didn’t really understand how the meet up space works. She said she has to put a space on the Meetup calendar once a week but that does not necessarily mean the space is available that day. She then explained that they can’t really rent the main space to non-members because it’ll be an inconvenience to members who use the common space as a hot desk. She said this while motioning to a man who was working on a laptop in the common room. The indication that I get from her is that she had no idea what she was signing up for when she put up the space on Meetup. I’m guessing she didn’t really expect someone to sign up. Furthermore, WeWork puts that space is available on a specific day each week even if that space might be filled internally. While they might be willing to let meet up groups use a conference room, they will not let them use the common space as that will be an inconvenience to members even though that’s an available option on the Meetup request form. I believe that this is deceitful, a ruse that Meetup and WeWork has come up with to boost their image without any intention of actually honoring those promises. I was considering becoming a Wework member once my incubation term is over but now, I will use a local Korean co-working space. I will make sure to dissuade everyone in my incubation to avoid using Wework as well. As for meetup, I will not be renewing my membership with them! Don’t waste your money with Meetup, most of the members are bots. I received 50 request for to join the group within a few days of creating the group. They pressured me to upgrade to a premium membership because I had so many people waiting to join the group but as soon as I upgraded, I’m lucky to have one request per week. None of these people are signing up for events or engaging with group discussions
