WeWork Official Statement on Coronavirus (COVID-19)

At WeWork, the health and safety of our members and employees is our top priority. We are monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic closely and have implemented a number of precautionary measures.

First, as a global company based in the United States, we are following guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), along with the World Health Organization (WHO) and local health departments as we navigate this situation. We are also in regular contact with our employees, members, and landlords regarding measures that we implement.

Second, we have a robust global emergency preparedness plan in place in the event any member or employee has contracted the coronavirus. In certain circumstances, depending on the severity of the incident, this plan could involve shutting down a building or floor for an extended period of time.

Third, in connection with guidance provided by the CDC, we have strengthened on-site cleanliness measures, such as more frequent wiping and disinfection, equipping each location with additional sanitization products, and working with building management to increase cleaning and sanitization of common areas.

Across all WeWork buildings, we are taking at minimum the following steps:  

  • Increased frequency and scope of daytime cleaning and sanitization of high touch points (door handles, elevator buttons, counter tops, other common areas);
  • Distribution of hand sanitizer dispensers;
  • Distribution of wipes to Community to offer to members to wipe down their internal services, including phone booths.

Fourth, as of March 12, 2020, WeWork has implemented a “work from home” policy for global employees and has moved to reduced staffing posture in our locations until further notice. This is in addition to WeWork’s mandatory 14-day “work from home” policy for all employees who exhibit flu-like symptoms, such as respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath or breathing difficulties, as well as those who travel back from high-risk regions. The list of high-risk regions is informed by guidance from the CDC and continues to expand. All domestic and international travel is also restricted for WeWork employees until further notice. WeWork’s travel restrictions are updated regularly and subject to change as we continue to evaluate travel risks worldwide.  

Lastly, as of March 12, 2020, WeWork has suspended all internal and member events until further notice. Community teams will work with our vendors and members to reschedule planned events for a later date.

We are asking all of our WeWork members and landlords to notify us immediately if they become aware of any individual in the building who may have been exposed to, or is confirmed positive for, coronavirus. This will help to protect the safety of our broader communities and ensure appropriate actions are taken swiftly.
