The health and safety of our members and global communities are our number one priority. That’s why we continue to take steps to enhance our spaces and services—ensuring that you can continue working with peace of mind.
We remain in regular contact with our employees, members, and landlords regarding our health and safety measures.
We’ve also brought in experts, working with International SOS to provide strategic direction on medical considerations and quality assurance, and Bureau Veritas to audit and endorse our policies so we can constantly improve.
Note: Specific policies and practices may vary by country and city. We will monitor local regulations, and adapt our local policies and practices as necessary.
We’re applying these five operational improvements in each building
Increased cleaning
We’re disinfecting common areas more frequently and are providing complimentary sanitization products in our space, including 45,000+ hand sanitizing dispensers, 33,000+ wipe dispensers, and 900,000+ boxes of gloves
HVAC operations
We have partnered with our landlords and enhanced our HVAC operations in line with industry guidance and local health experts
Professional distancing
We’re modifying shared spaces with staggered seating and buffer zones indicated by 65,000+ floor vinyls and 400,000+ tabletop vinyls so teams can practice healthy social distancing in the workplace
Behavioral signage
We’re installing strategically placed signage and directions in over 25 different languages as friendly reminders about social distancing and cleanliness
Sanitization equipment
We’re providing buildings with new sanitation devices for use by all occupants to keep spaces clean (sanitizer and wipe dispensers, hands free soap dispensers, etc.)
Increased sanitization
Reinforcing our standards with heightened and more frequent cleaning
Common spaces
In addition to WeWork’s normal cleaning routine, we are cleaning “high-touch” surfaces and “high-traffic” areas with increased frequency during business hours to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. This includes common areas, community bar, phone booths, conference room tables, print nooks, turnstiles, elevator lobby panels & buttons, door handles, light switches, check-in tablet devices, entrance doors, hand sanitizer dispensers, manual faucets, pantry surfaces, restroom surfaces, and handrails.
Private offices
Private offices are cleaned every 7-10 days including sanitizing accessible surfaces (desks, chairs, etc.). Additional cleaning services are available upon request for a fee.
Cleaning products
We use disinfectants that meet by local government guidance, such as the CDC in the US, or global organizations such as the WHO.
Mail and package
Our community teams are practicing contactless mail and package delivery. Sanitizing wipes and gloves will be made available to members to use when handling these items.
HVAC operations
Working to provide cleaner, filtered air circulation throughout our spaces
Extended schedules
When possible, HVAC systems will operate for extended schedules with outside air maximized—however, this is largely dependent on both weather and air quality. Where necessary, this may involve adjusting HVAC operating schedules.
Increased filtration monitoring
We will continue to follow our preventive maintenance schedules. We’ll also be closely monitoring filtration change out rate and create action plans to quickly align to health organizations’ guidance on filter type and duty as it’s announced.
Operational changes
We’re working to enhance our HVAC standards to align with local industry best practices. However, as operational oversight and systems vary by building, our approach to implementation differs on a location-by-location basis.
Professional distancing
Modifying shared spaces to prioritize personal space and safety
Common spaces
To meet new profesional distance protocols, we’ve de-densified common spaces by removing seats or identifying ‘safe to occupy’ seats in our lounges and pantries.
Meeting rooms
We’ve decreased capacity, removed chairs, and identified ‘safe to occupy’ seats where applicable. New meeting room capacities are reflected on the member app. Signage at the door and on the table reiterates how to sit safely in the room.
Elevators and lobbies
We’re working with our landlords and property managers to create and implement elevator guidelines and passenger limits in all of our buildings. In buildings where WeWork operates the elevators, capacities will be reduced by 50%. In WeWork managed elevator lobbies, distancing floor vinyls will be installed as friendly reminders of distancing guidelines.
Private offices
Members are encouraged to safely retrofit their private spaces to allow for social distancing in accordance with local regulations. Other approaches may also make sense for your business including rotational staffing models or the use of partitions. We can provide best practices upon request.
Amenity areas
Where we can safely do so, we’re keeping amenities such as game rooms, pool tables, and barista bars open with enhanced cleaning and distancing guidelines in place.
Behavioral signage
Strategically placed signage and wayfinding to guide behavior and cooperation
Signage to look for
New, printed signs are installed throughout our spaces, providing guidance and clear instructions on new best practices. You’ll find them in: print nooks, hot desks, lounges, meeting rooms, nooks, phone booths, hallways, community bars, classrooms, elevator lobbies, pantries, and restrooms.
Directing traffic
Vinyl floor decals and wayfinding wall signs will help you maintain distance and direct foot traffic flow through spaces. You’ll find them in: hallways, elevator lobbies, community bars
Buffer seating
Colored vinyl decals indicate available seating for members, to provide buffer space between individuals. You’ll find them in: bar stools, dining tables, meeting rooms, hot desks
Sanitization equipment
Installing complimentary products to maintain cleanliness and hygiene throughout our spaces
Bathrooms
To reduce contact with communal soap dispensers, hands-free dispensers will be installed within bathrooms.
Common areas
Both wipe dispensers and hand sanitizer dispensers will be conveniently located throughout common spaces for all members.
Pantries
Single use items will be readily available as alternatives to the standard, reusable items. Cutlery, cups, condiments, and dairy will be handled and replenished by staff wearing both gloves and face coverings.
Private offices
Sanitizing wipes, hand sanitizer and dispensers will be available for purchase, pending market availability and supply chain factors.
Additional safety measures
Reporting a Coronavirus case
If you or an employee has a confirmed case of COVID-19 in your space, please contact your Community Management team immediately. You can find their email on your WeWork app in the building guide. We ask that individuals with a confirmed case of COVID-19 do not return to their WeWork location until they have met local government criteria for discontinuing home isolation.
Protection equipment
WeWork Community team employees and daily vendors, like janitorial and facilities, will be wearing face coverings while in our spaces. Gloves will also be used by employees handling food/beverage, mail/package, and janitorial services. WeWork members and visitors are encouraged to wear face coverings but are only required to when mandated by local law or regulation. If required, Community teams may be able to provide a one-time use, disposable face coverings—if none are available, they may be asked to leave.
Temperature screening
WeWork Community team employees and vendors accessing our spaces will be required to have taken their temperature before the start of their shift, subject to applicable local regulations and best practices. Landlords may require temperature checks for all entering the building, depending on state/local mandates.
Touring guidelines
Your health and safety is important to us. We’ve implemented procedures and guidelines for touring our buildings to ensure that visitors, members, and employees can work in a clean environment. If you are not feeling well, we ask that you reschedule your tour to help us maintain a safe working environment for all of our employees and members. Please be advised that our tour schedule slots may be limited due to reduced in-person staffing hours. We ask that tour participants adhere to local professional distancing guidelines when they are able to. There may be spaces shown during the tour where this isn’t possible, which is why we require all participants to wear a face mask or face covering. Tour participants are expected to comply with the building’s health and safety guidelines. Professional distancing and behavior signage can be found throughout the building. Please review this page to learn more about the procedures WeWork is implementing to ensure that members can continue to work in a clean environment.
What else you should know about WeWork’s approach
Events
We’ve updated our events policies to prioritize a balance of flexibility, connection, health, and wellness in our spaces. Member-sponsored events will be permitted where local law allows and in accordance with capacity measures. Overall, we are continuing to host virtual events to maintain connection across our community.
Clean desk strategy
We’ll be operating a “clean desk strategy” in certain markets to ensure our cleaning regime is as thorough as possible. All desks should be cleared at the end of the day with the exception of monitors and laptop stands. All documents or IT peripherals should be stored in cupboards or filing cabinets.
Updated community wellness guidelines
We kindly ask that all members and guests follow our community wellness guidelines. Signage outlining these guidelines have been placed throughout common areas to help ensure we can keep our spaces clean, together.
