Thailand’s latest unicorn LINE MAN Wongnai leans on flexible workplace to support rapid growth

LINE MAN Wongnai partners with WeWork to help optimize its workplace strategy, enhance collaboration and support expansion plans

THAILAND, April 18, 2023 – Leading on-demand and restaurant discovery platform LINE MAN Wongnai, has expanded its partnership with WeWork, a leading global flexible space provider, to help establish a modern workspace that fosters collaboration and creativity amongst its 1000+ workforce across WeWork T-One and Spring Tower.

Prior to taking up space at WeWork in 2019, LINE MAN Wongnai’s traditional approach to real estate meant that employees were spread across multiple floors, with limited opportunities for interaction and collaboration. Since their move to WeWork, LINE MAN Wongnai has grown exponentially, created a collaborative working culture, successfully chartered the merger of two companies and cultures, and now it has become Thailand’s latest unicorn with a valuation well above US$1 billion after its series-B funding.

“We are on the path to becoming a National Champion and our next big goal is to launch an IPO in Thailand to inspire the next generation of Thai startups,” said Anontawong Marukpitak, VP of People, LINE MAN Wongnai. “As a rapidly growing company, we require a workspace solution that can accommodate the changing size and work arrangements of our team in a cost-effective and flexible manner, as well as a dynamic work environment that supports our evolving needs and WeWork’s flexible office solutions enable us to do this.”

In 2019, the restaurant review and discovery platform (then known as Wongnai) occupied almost one and a half floors at WeWork T-One, and following its merger with on-demand platform LINE MAN in 2020, saw the need to scale head count in line with business growth.

“WeWork’s workspace offerings are well-suited to help support continued growth of a rapidly expanding business. We experienced significant growth in the food delivery business during the pandemic, even while employees were working from home, and post-pandemic WeWork’s flexible workspace model continues to be a key part of our hybrid work strategy helping to facilitate in-person interaction, create a strong corporate culture and drive innovation and growth,” added Anontawong.

In an increasingly competitive on-demand app market, it is fundamental for teamwork and constant innovation to not just keep up but stay ahead of the evolving industry landscape and shifting consumer preferences.

Through the partnership, LINE MAN Wongnai put employee connection and collaboration at the heart of their workspace strategy to drive innovation. Post pandemic, they have switched from designated desks to hot desks to align with their work-from-anywhere policy, which allows employees the flexibility to work from home or other locations, while still providing office space for meetings, events and social hangouts to help foster a collaborative culture, creativity and strong connections amongst the team.

Intentionally designed to enhance both teamwork and individual productivity, and foster brainstorming and design thinking, WeWork’s space supports diverse work environments with more social and breakout meeting spaces.

WeWork brings together global and local companies from various industries in Bangkok. Being in a team-centric work environment has not only helped LINE MAN Wongnai retain their top talent but also recruit new team members.

Of the ongoing office space partnership, Balder Tol, General Manager, Australia and Southeast Asia at WeWork commented, “LINE MAN Wongnai is one of the most exciting brands to have emerged from Thailand in recent years. We’re excited to continue supporting and growing with them  as they progress in their growth trajectory within Thailand and across the region.

Their focus and commitment to employee engagement has made this partnership even more meaningful. We are seeing a shift in the way people approach work and this is a great example of  a business recognizing the need for collaboration, flexibility and scalability to thrive and grow beyond the pandemic.”
