WeWork supports the American Red Cross amid COVID-19 public health crisis

Global workspace provider to host Red Cross blood drives across the U.S., starting with Atlanta, Chicago and Dallas

WeWork, the leading global workspace provider, announced today its support to help ensure a stable blood supply during the coronavirus (COVID-19) public health crisis by hosting American Red Cross blood drives.

WeWork will leverage its significant workspace portfolio to donate space in select U.S. locations to the Red Cross. According to the Red Cross, there is an urgent need for blood and platelet donors to help prevent further blood shortages as hospitals resume all surgical procedures and patient treatments that were temporarily paused earlier this spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic. WeWork is acting in response to this challenge by offering up locations in Atlanta, Chicago and Dallas as the first cities available to the Red Cross to host local blood drives and intends to expand to additional spaces across its more than 300 locations in the U.S.

“We are honored to be able to help ensure patients have access to lifesaving blood transfusions by supporting the American Red Cross during this unprecedented public health crisis,” said Miguel McKelvey, WeWork Co-Founder and Chief Culture Officer. “Community remains at the core of WeWork’s mission, and aligning with an organization like the Red Cross allows us to use our spaces to make an impact on the issues that matter most — supporting and uniting with our local communities during times of need.”

“In times of crisis, the American Red Cross is fortunate to witness the best of humanity as people roll up a sleeve to help those in need,” said Brian Boyle, Officer of National Partnerships, American Red Cross. “We are grateful to WeWork for stepping up to help the Red Cross provide additional opportunities for blood donors to meet the urgent need for potentially life saving donations.”
