They call it an internet café, but the six desks clustered inside an enormous white cube are much more than that. For example, drop your phone in the dock and all your current projects sync up to the monitor and keyboard.
“This is an app developer’s dream,” said one frequent user. “If you’re troubleshooting your new app, no need to jump back and forth between your laptop and your phone. Everything you need is right here.”
The innovative space, on the ground floor of Brooklyn’s WeWork South Williamsburg, is a combination customer care center and touchdown space developed by WeWork and Samsung. Two other similar spaces are debuting in Detroit’s WeWork Merchant’s Row and Miami’s WeWork South of Fifth.
WeWork and Samsung want these to be engaging community hubs where member and customers can work, learn, and innovate together. The spaces will host panel discussions, lunch-and-learn events, and a speaker series.
In Brooklyn, the space includes three spacious conference rooms that can easily fit 10 people, a couple of sleek meeting rooms for smaller teams, and a bank of phone-booth style rooms that can be used for video conferences or as a private space to finish that last-minute project. And when you need some R&R, there’s also a game room. The facilities are all outfitted with the latest Samsung tools to aid productivity and collaboration.
The space will be open to WeWork members as well as Samsung customers, who will get temporary access to WeWork perks like freshly brewed coffee, refreshing fruit water, and Wi-Fi access.
Also available onsite will be Samsung reps providing device troubleshooting and software updates, recovery, and data transfer. They’ll also be able to help users learn about any of the Samsung technology in the space.
