WeWork to acquire workplace real estate platform SpaceIQ, expanding enterprise technology suite

With SpaceIQ, we will have the ability to provide large organizations around the world with technology to drive strategic workplace and real estate planning

A great workplace experience is more than just having a desk by the window or free lunch. It’s about being able to find a conference room for a last-minute meeting or having a mix of space to help you do your best work, like a table for collaboration and a quiet area for creative thinking.

Today’s leaders—from heads of real estate and facilities management to CHROs and CEOs—understand this. They are looking to create an environment where space is efficiently used and employees can be their most productive, collaborative, and engaged. Yet each of these leaders uses different technology to inform their decisions and operate on separate timelines, making it difficult to efficiently plan and budget.

With enterprises representing approximately 40 percent of WeWork’s membership base, we recognize the unique challenges large companies face when it comes to balancing company growth and employee engagement with real estate needs. Over the years, we’ve built a portfolio of physical and digital offerings to help them address those needs.

We worked with Microsoft to provide its New York sales team with unlimited access to our buildings across the city to help them spend less time commuting and more time with customers. We partnered with ezCater to create a custom office in Boston and wall-to-wall deployment of our workplace experience software, which includes space booking, wayfinding, and guest management.

Today, we’re excited to announce the latest addition in our enterprise technology suite: SpaceIQ. SpaceIQ is a workplace real estate management and operations platform that helps companies manage everything from space planning to global portfolio optimization. As part of WeWork, SpaceIQ will allow us to strengthen our ability to help enterprises make informed decisions across the entirety of their real estate portfolio.

“SpaceIQ’s incredible team and technology will help us build on our existing enterprise stack of workplace experience software and insights, and allow us to provide companies with workplace real estate management and optimization, including move management, space stacking, and richer portfolio analytics,” said Shiva Rajaraman, WeWork’s chief technology officer. “We’re thrilled to welcome SpaceIQ to the WeWork family.”

SpaceIQ’s platform sits at the heart of an emerging workplace software ecosystem, and integrates seamlessly with numerous enterprise systems to incorporate HR, real estate, IT, financial, and operations data to offer companies a comprehensive view of their real estate portfolio.

“SpaceIQ’s real estate planning and operations platform has been instrumental in supporting Slack’s rapid growth,” said Deano Roberts, VP, global workplace and real estate, at Slack. “As a customer of WeWork’s workplace experience software Teem, we are thrilled to see these two companies come together and look forward to having our workplace planning and utilization data in one single solution—providing a holistic view of our real estate portfolio.”

SpaceIQ was founded in 2016 by chief executive officer Shahar Alster, chief product officer Noam Livnat, and chief operation officer Jeff Revoy, with employees based in Mountain View, California, and Salt Lake City, Utah. Through this deal, SpaceIQ will maintain its existing customer base, and become completely integrated within WeWork.

“SpaceIQ’s mission, from its inception, was to provide companies with a modern platform to manage the entire real estate life cycle, from space and move planning to global portfolio optimization,” said Shahar Alster, SpaceIQ’s cofounder and CEO. “Joining the WeWork family enables us to usher in a new era in which corporate real estate transitions to a dynamically managed mix of owned, leased, and flexible spaces that’s always optimized for business needs.”
