WeWork announces matching donations for Australia bushfire relief

The company and its leaders will match dollar for dollar in the campaign

The bushfire crisis continues to devastate communities across Australia. Thousands of homes have been destroyed, nearly 18 million acres of land have been burned, millions of animals have perished, and over 20 people have been killed.

WeWork is a global community, and seeing how the fires have ravaged Australia has instilled in us a sense of urgency.

Many of our members and employees have asked what we can do to help those affected by this tragedy. That’s why today we are announcing a campaign to raise funds for the Australian Red Cross. WeWork will triple match the first $50,000 USD in donations that our community—employees and members—gives to the Australian Red Cross.

For each $1 raised, WeWork will contribute $3. This means if we raise $50,000, WeWork will contribute a total match of $150,000—funded by $50,000 from the company, and $50,000 each that Miguel and I will personally commit to the relief efforts—amounting to a $200,000 donation to the Australian Red Cross.

All donations will go directly to the Australian Red Cross’s recovery and relief efforts. If you are able to give, please do so directly on our fundraising page. Every dollar of your contribution will have a direct impact on rebuilding disaster-affected communities across Australia.

One thing we’ve learned over the past few months is that we are better together. When one part of our community suffers, the rest of us step up. When we come together, the impact we can have will be even greater. We’re grateful for the strength and generosity of our community, and hope you will consider donating to this cause.

Marcelo Claure is executive chairman of WeWork; Miguel McKelvey is co-founder and chief culture officer of WeWork.
