Small businesses made up most of the newcomers too: about 12,400 of the 12,900.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Enterprises were the most likely to stay<\/strong>: 83% of this year\u2019s enterprise members had been with WeWork a year earlier, as had 81% of mid-size firms. Among small businesses, where companies turn over faster, 69% had been present in both years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The network is also keeping more of its members<\/strong> than it used to. The share of companies present in one year but not the next fell by nearly seven points year over year, from about 41% to 35% \u2014 roughly 6,500 fewer departures than the year before. Most of the companies that leave are small businesses, which also make up most of those joining, as smaller firms tend to open, grow, and close more often than larger ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So even as companies cycled through WeWork, the shape of the network stayed the same: mostly small businesses, with a steady share of enterprises and mid-size firms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"infogram-embed\" data-id=\"_\/tMRmPJfSL9z1mXhGbbed\" data-type=\"interactive\" data-title=\"V1 - Companies\"><\/div><script>!function(e,n,i,s){var d=\"InfogramEmbeds\";var o=e.getElementsByTagName(n)[0];if(window[d]&&window[d].initialized)window[d].process&&window[d].process();else if(!e.getElementById(i)){var r=e.createElement(n);r.async=1,r.id=i,r.src=s,o.parentNode.insertBefore(r,o)}}(document,\"script\",\"infogram-async\",\"https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed-loader-min.js\");<\/script>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-where-the-network-grew\">Where the network grew<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>San Francisco <\/strong>stood out on the map: membership grew 8% on a wave of new small teams, with enterprises up 11%. Nearly half its members (48%) joined in just the past year, the highest share of any major market, with <strong>Miami <\/strong>close behind at 44%. This fits what&#8217;s happening across San Francisco, where AI companies have been taking a lot of office space. <a href=\"https:\/\/therealdeal.com\/san-francisco\/2026\/07\/01\/san-francisco-office-vacancy-down-5-points-in-a-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">CBRE<\/a> found the city&#8217;s office vacancy dropped about five points in a year, the biggest fall of any major U.S. city.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Amsterdam <\/strong>and <strong>Toronto <\/strong>also grew by 5% and 3%, respectively. Their average footprint grew from 7.8 to 9.0 seats, up 14.8%. Enterprises expanded from 105 to 111 seats, up 5.6%. Mid-size firms held steady at around 33 seats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Part of that rising average reflects turnover among the smallest companies that cycle in and out of WeWork. The more telling measure is what individual companies did. Among the 30,100 companies present in both periods,<strong> 81% kept or expanded their footprint<\/strong>. That holds across sizes: 82% of small businesses, 71% of enterprises, and 70% of mid-size firms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The same holds by market. In every market analyzed, at least 80% of companies that stayed kept or grew their space, and in several, it was higher: <strong>91%<\/strong> in <strong>Miami<\/strong>, <strong>90%<\/strong> in <strong>Amsterdam<\/strong>, <strong>88%<\/strong> in <strong>Seoul<\/strong>, and <strong>87%<\/strong> in <strong>S\u00e3o Paulo,<\/strong> <strong>Los Angeles<\/strong>, and <strong>Chicago<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"infogram-embed\" data-id=\"_\/pVdNVsfZyDAUzdbYIWyl\" data-type=\"interactive\" data-title=\"V2 - Footprint\"><\/div><script>!function(e,n,i,s){var d=\"InfogramEmbeds\";var o=e.getElementsByTagName(n)[0];if(window[d]&&window[d].initialized)window[d].process&&window[d].process();else if(!e.getElementById(i)){var r=e.createElement(n);r.async=1,r.id=i,r.src=s,o.parentNode.insertBefore(r,o)}}(document,\"script\",\"infogram-async\",\"https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed-loader-min.js\");<\/script>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-footprints-by-market\">Footprints by market<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Footprints for every segment grew in 14 of the 20 major markets<\/strong>, with small businesses growing theirs in 18 of 20 major markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the <strong>United States<\/strong> and <strong>Canada<\/strong>, <strong>Los Angeles<\/strong> led with the average footprint up 13%, followed by <strong>Washington, D.C.<\/strong> and <strong>Boston <\/strong>at 10%, <strong>Toronto <\/strong>at 8%, and <strong>Chicago <\/strong>at 5%. In <strong>Los Angeles<\/strong> and <strong>Washington, D.C.<\/strong>, enterprises led, expanding their footprints by 45% and 26%. <strong>San Francisco<\/strong> added enterprises faster than any other US market while keeping its average footprint level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cCompanies increasing their flexible space footprint across the United States and Canada is indicative of the new status-quo: a growing need for speed, agility, and adaptability in their real estate portfolios in today\u2019s fast-paced and rapidly evolving economy,\u201d <\/em>shared Luke Robinson, Regional President for North America at WeWork. <em>\u201cFrom San Francisco to Washington D.C. and everywhere in between, even the largest enterprises are continuing to lean on flex to deliver exceptional workplace experiences for their employees while decreasing their long-term commitments where it makes sense.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>EMEA<\/strong>, <strong>London <\/strong>grew 26% and <strong>Paris <\/strong>19%, with companies of every size adding space: London&#8217;s enterprises expanded their footprint by 48% and its small businesses by 12%. London&#8217;s growth comes amid a broader shift in the city, where <a href=\"https:\/\/k2space.co.uk\/knowledge\/london-office-market\">flexible space now accounts for about 10% of all central London offices<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbre.co.uk\/press-releases\/flex-space-to-account-for-20-of-london-office-market-by-2030\">CBRE<\/a> expects it to reach 20% by 2030. Elsewhere in EMEA, small businesses in <strong>Berlin <\/strong>and <strong>Amsterdam <\/strong>added space as well, up 19% and 32%, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cOur latest data shows flexible workspace becoming an increasingly important part of companies\u2019 real estate strategies. London is a powerful example: the average footprint of companies in our locations has grown significantly. Businesses increasingly recognise that they can\u2019t predict exactly what their headcount or space requirements will look like several years from now. Flex gives them the agility to adapt as those needs change and is becoming a core part of how companies plan their real estate for the long term,\u201d<\/em> added Luke Armstrong, Regional President, EMEA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Asia-Pacific<\/strong> grew across the board: <strong>Singapore <\/strong>up 12%, <strong>Seoul <\/strong>11%, <strong>Sydney <\/strong>6%. Across new and renewal agreements for committed, multi-desk memberships, <strong>the average deal was 10.7 desks<\/strong> <strong>in the first half of 2026<\/strong>, up from 10.3 a year earlier, a 3.8% increase. <strong>The average commitment was 11 months<\/strong>, up from 10.8.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By size, little moved. The increase comes as hybrid work settles in, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upflex.com\/blog\/hybrid-work-office-space-a-complete-2026-guide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">most people now in the office two or three days a week<\/a> and booking space when they need it.&nbsp; <strong>London <\/strong>was the busiest market for it, averaging about 10,700 reservations a month, and it grew 11% year over year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-by-market\">By market<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On Demand rose in 10 of the 17 markets that offer it. <strong>EMEA <\/strong>led: <strong>Amsterdam <\/strong>up 70%, <strong>Berlin <\/strong>36%, <strong>Paris <\/strong>20%, <strong>London <\/strong>11%. For the company-level findings \u2014 footprint, retention, and deal metrics \u2014 we excluded On Demand and pay-per-use bookings, which are not memberships in the same sense.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>We grouped companies by workforce size: enterprises (1,000 or more employees), medium businesses (500 to 999), and small businesses (fewer than 500).<\/em>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Footprint figures reflect the average number of seats a company held per month.
