Creator Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou have to be prepared to fail,\u201d said <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joey W\u00f6lffer, founder of&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/store.joeywolffer.com\/collections\/the-styleliner\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Styleliner<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cI actually feel if people had told me how much it would hurt, I probably wouldn\u2019t have done it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">W\u00f6lffer was speaking to a standing-room-only crowd at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/creator\/creator-awards\/lets-hear-new-york-hometown-heroes-win-creator-awards\/?utm_source=wework&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=creator\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New York Creator Awards<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on November 16. She and three other successful business owners were giving a tell-it-like-it-is master class to several hundred people, many of them would-be entrepreneurs. More than a few had notebooks in hand, furiously taking notes.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI feel that it is an exciting world, but it\u2019s also a terrifying world,\u201d she added. \u201cYou have to be genuinely you in everything you do. If you sway any other direction, you won\u2019t succeed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her words were echoed by the others on the stage. They all said that being an entrepreneur is one of the hardest jobs in the world, but also one of the most rewarding. Their passion meant they couldn\u2019t imagine doing anything else.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are four of the biggest takeaways from the evening.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2  id=\"be-fearlessly-weird\"class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Be \u2018fearlessly weird\u2019<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe have this phrase called, \u2018You do you.\u2019 It\u2019s this idea that you should be fearlessly weird. What the world doesn\u2019t need is your version of someone else\u2019s idea. What the world needs is your idea. I think the biggest lesson I\u2019ve learned is the importance of being authentic, being unique, being real to yourself. Don\u2019t chase the dollar, chase the vision.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2014Michael Lastoria,&nbsp;<\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/andpizza.com\/\">&amp;pizza<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2  id=\"trust-what-your-customers-have-to-say\"class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Trust what your customers have to say<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEverybody else is going to stroke your ego. Your customers are going to tell you the truth. That\u2019s really important.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2014Joey W\u00f6lffer,&nbsp;<\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/powelliemon.webfactional.com\/\">W\u00f6lffer Estate Vineyard<\/a> and The Styleliner<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2  id=\"gather-a-group-of-great-advisors\"class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Gather a group of great advisors<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSurround yourself with people who are great advisors, who have strengths that you don\u2019t have. Run your idea by them, and get their input. If they believe as passionately in it as you do, then you have the support you need.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2014Anna Keiser,&nbsp;<\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/aktinmotion.com\/\">AKT<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2  id=\"prepare-yourself-for-the-loneliest-job\"class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Prepare yourself for the loneliest job<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI told my team the other day, \u2018The wins are yours, the losses are mine.\u2019 They were all celebrating the biggest day of revenue in the history of the brand. I\u2019m like, \u2018Yeah!\u2019\u2014and then I\u2019m back to solving a problem. That\u2019s just the way it is.
