Samantha Snabes, co-founder of re:3D, recalls the knot in her stomach the morning of her pitch at the<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/creator\/news\/top-winners-austin-creator-awards-announce-hiring\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Austin Creator Awards<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Still, her innovative idea for making 3D printing an accessible technology helped her company take home a $180,000 prize in the scale category.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now she\u2019s eligible for the<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/creatorawards.wework.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creator Awards<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Finals\u2014and the chance to take home a $1 million grand prize. To prepare, Snabes and more than 20 other finalists are attending Creator Camp, a two-day workshop taking place this weekend in Washington, D.C.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the beginning of re:3D, I&#8217;ve struggled a lot with sharing our story in public, and asking for help,\u201d Snabes says. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The experience [at the Austin Creator Awards] was invaluable. We&#8217;ve become bolder in sharing needs and forming partnerships.\u201d Preparing for the weekend ahead, she\u2019s most looking forward to learning from other participants.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Creator Awards and Creator Camp, both sponsored by WeWork, support entrepreneurs, artists, startups, and nonprofits around the world by committing more than $20 million to great ideas and the people behind them. Additionally, events like Creator Camp build up a sense of community among finalists. Snabes, for one, is excited to get feedback from the group on re:3D\u2019s website and other aspects of her business.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Besides the peer mentoring, attendees of Creator Camp will hear from savvy voices experienced at every stage of business development. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How do you deliver your best pitch? The experts agreed: Don\u2019t be too pitch-y.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNo one wants to be pitched,\u201d says Stuart Paap, founder of Pitch DNA. \u201cDisguise it as a genuine conversation. Pitching denotes a one-way conversation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mary Iafelice, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">co-founder of Humble Ventures, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">says this weekend will be a great chance for entrepreneurs to test out their approaches in a safe space.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThere&#8217;s no way to know what sticks and what doesn&#8217;t until you test it in the market, especially when it comes to storytelling,\u201d Iafelice says. \u201cYou have to observe the human behaviors of what happens when you tell your story.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Workshops to help finalists do just that will include \u201cBusiness of Branding,\u201d \u201cImprov Your Pitch,\u201d and \u201cTough Questions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kathy Korman Frey, a professor at George Washington University School of Business\u2019<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/business.gwu.edu\/research\/center-for-entrepreneurial-excellence-cfee\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, will be on hand during one of the weekend\u2019s one-on-one mentoring sessions. She\u2019s seen the power of positive reinforcement from peer mentors and even just seeing case studies\u2014especially for female entrepreneurs\u2014and developed the world\u2019s largest library of women\u2019s case studies. To her, the key trait to demonstrate to investors is open-mindedness.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cInvestors like to see someone who\u2019s coachable,\u201d Frey says. \u201cIf you can\u2019t adjust quickly, you won\u2019t survive.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><i>For the Creator Awards, WeWork is committing more than $20 million to innovative projects and the people behind them.
