It\u2019s that I don\u2019t always follow rules.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A yearlong stint as a designer at Nike\u2014a dream job, she admits\u2014convinced the Portland trailblazer that she needed to strike out on her own. Soard started&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youcanbrand.com\/\">You Can Brand<\/a>, where she teaches other young entrepreneurs how to launch their own companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Soard is doing so well that in the past year she&#8217;s tripled her company\u2019s annual income. She was able to shelve her teaching gig at the University of Oregon, where she \u201cmade as much per class as I do now for one student of my own.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"450\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/03\/Jenna-Soard-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25571\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The secret of her success? First of all, she has amazing branding for her own company. There\u2019s nothing boring about her website, which features a photo of Soard parachuting down from the clouds wearing an aviator helmet and a jet-black leather jacket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Soard says she was inspired by 1930s aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart, who she describes as \u201ca pilot, a professor, and an entrepreneur\u2014a really cool lady.\u201d One of the photos on her website has Soard perched atop the fuselage of Earhart\u2019s own plane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lighthearted feel is intentional: Soard wants to convince potential students that they can create their own brand, design their own website, or put together a great online course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her business model is unique. Instead of doing all the work herself, Soard teaches entrepreneurs how to do it on their own. They sign up for online courses in topics like \u201cThe Biz Plan\u201d or \u201cLaunch Your Lead Magnet\u201d and get one-on-one support from Soard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s like they\u2019re getting me to be the creative director of their brand,\u201d she says. \u201cThey\u2019re learning as they\u2019re going along. I tell them what\u2019s going to work and what\u2019s going to not work, and explain why.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along the way Soard became a member at San Diego\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/buildings\/b-street--san-diego--CA\">WeWork B Street<\/a>, a move she says has made running a business a lot easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cComing to WeWork solved a million problems,\u201d she says. \u201cI was working solo, always trying to find a reason to get out of the house.
