It turned out that diamonds were his real passion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a diamond guy by trade,\u201d says Press. \u201cI do \u2018privates,\u2019 which is what they call private showings in the industry. People come to me looking for that perfect stone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He looked at other office spaces, but then a cousin mentioned a coworking space called WeWork. He looked at several buildings before he decided on an office at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/buildings\/grand-central--new-york-city--NY\">WeWork Grand Central<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/Neil-Press-1-800x571.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25432\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/Neil-Press-2-800x571.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25433\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy wife and I were super interested as soon as we heard about WeWork,\u201d says Press. \u201cIt turned out to be ideal for us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others in the industry might wonder why he didn\u2019t find a spot for <a href=\"http:\/\/alyseryanllc.com\/\">AlyseRyan<\/a> in New York\u2019s crowded Diamond District, where more than 2,600 independent retailers compete for customers along a single block of 47th Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI will tell you, most people in my business wouldn\u2019t consider this a good spot,\u201d Press says. \u201cI disagreed with that, obviously. I don\u2019t need a storefront. I need a place where it\u2019s just me and the client\u2014nobody coming in the door, no interruptions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/Neil-Press-3-800x571.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25435\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/Neil-Press-4-800x571.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25436\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When he\u2019s seeing a client, he\u2019ll often reserve a conference room. There he\u2019ll unpack a leather bag filled with the tools of his trade: a variety of tweezers, magnifying glasses, and a gauge that measures the stones down to a fraction of a millimeter. They\u2019re all displayed under a wand-shaped jeweler\u2019s lamp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And then come the diamonds, shimmering under the bright light. If the client will wear the stone, he might place the diamonds directly on their hand, slowing what they\u2019d look like set in a wedding ring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s missing is an army of salespeople hovering nearby. This is the opposite of a hard sell. There\u2019s no push for the big sale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/Neil-Press-5-800x571.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25437\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/02\/Neil-Press-6-800x571.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25438\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>My business is all referral based, so I want to make sure that the customer is comfortable with what he\u2019s purchasing,\u201d says Press. \u201cMy job is to make sure everybody\u2019s happy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019s planning a move in the coming months to the newly opened <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/buildings\/tower-49--new-york-city--NY\">WeWork Tower 49<\/a>. (\u201cEven closer to the Diamond District,\u201d he confides, \u201cbut it maintains the intimacy and privacy that clients appreciate.\u201d) In the meantime, he\u2019s enjoying being around entrepreneurs working in a lot of different industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s invigorating being around all these young and innovative people,\u201d Press says. \u201cAnd a lot of them might end up being future clients.
