Then a casual conversation in the back of a bar convinced him to launch his own line. In 2012, The 86 Co. released its first four spirits: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canabravarum.com\/\">Ca\u00f1a Brava Rum<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aylesburyduckvodka.com\/\">Aylesbury Duck Vodka<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tequilanomames.com\/\">Tequila Cabeza<\/a>, and\u2014his namesake\u2014<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fordsgin.com\/\">Ford\u2019s Gin<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/10\/Simon-Ford-of-The-86-Co-800x571.jpg\" alt=\"Simon Ford\" class=\"wp-image-23875\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>The thing that old guys like me always say is: \u2018I wish I had done this when I was younger.\u2019 But then I wouldn\u2019t have had the experience that you get from 20 years in the business.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve got the best job in the world,\u201d says Ford, who just moved into a new office at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/locations\/los-angeles\/hollywood\">WeWork Hollywood<\/a>. He gets to create spirits \u201cwith a lot of character and lots of body,\u201d the kind that don\u2019t get lost in a martini or mojito. The 43-year-old Ford is the public face of the company, so that means a lot of nights out on the town. \u201cThat\u2019s definitely one of the major challenges of being in this industry,\u201d says Ford. \u201cYou can\u2019t walk into a bar and not drink your own brand. And you\u2019ve got four more bars to visit that night,\u201d he laughs. \u201cBut it\u2019s also the fun part.
