By 2050, 70 percent of the world\u2019s population will live in urban areas. That means 2.8 billion people will be moving to cities that are already struggling to keep up in terms of housing, transportation, and infrastructure. That\u2019s where Jerry Hultin, cofounder of the Global Futures Group<\/a>, comes in. His consulting company, based in New York\u2019s WeWork Gramercy<\/a>, aims to use \u201c21st century technology to make cities more livable for people around the world.\u201d These cities of the future will implement \u201chundreds of small changes,\u201d like driverless cars that will reduce traffic and the need for downtown parking lots, that will result in \u201can even better New York, a better Vancouver, a better Shanghai.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Jerry<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

There are a lot of things to do in the world, and I\u2019m still feeling energized about finding ways to do them. People often think I\u2019m younger than I am, and I don\u2019t disabuse them of that.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Hultin served as Undersecretary of the Navy under President Bill Clinton, bringing \u201cfour-star officers to Silicon Valley\u201d to brainstorm about the future of the military. After that, he became president of the Polytechnic Institute of New York University, encouraging \u201cinvention, innovation, and entrepreneurship\u201d among students and faculty. Now, one of his main focuses is next year\u2019s Smart Cities NYC \u201917<\/a>, a meeting of citizens, corporations, and government leaders. \u201cIt\u2019s a platform for building a better future,\u201d says the 74-year-old visionary. \u201cIt\u2019s much better to build a world that people love to live in, where they\u2019re happy with their job, and where they have a good life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
