Just from looking at her, you wouldn\u2019t have any inkling about what Liz Ngonzi calls her \u201csuper powers\u201d\u2014a distinct knack for listening to others and the ability to recall even the smallest details. These traits have made her a powerful force in the nonprofit community. \u201cHaving a photographic memory enables me to connect the dots between seemingly disparate things and create great new ideas,\u201d says Ngonzi, CEO of the North American operations of Afrika Tikkun<\/a>, a nonprofit that serves underprivileged communities in South Africa. Her goal is to create a \u201cnext-generation nonprofit\u201d that comes up with \u201cefficient, effective, and collaborative\u201d solutions to the world\u2019s problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a growing global village, it has become extremely important to collectively address the issues that directly or indirectly affect us all.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Based at New York\u2019s WeWork Charging Bull<\/a>, Ngonzi started at Afrika Tikkun in 2014. Before that, she was a sought-after public speaker on topics like leadership, philanthropy, and international development. She\u2019s an adjunct professor at New York University, a former entrepreneur-in-residence at Cornell University, and launched her own consulting firm. But she says the most inspiring thing she\u2019s done is Afrika Tikkun. \u201cI\u2019m overwhelmed by the positive energy of our kids and their families,\u201d says Ngonzi, \u201cand how they come together to celebrate their success despite the many challenges they face in their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
