So it\u2019s no surprise that in 2007, she volunteered as a coach for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.girlsontherun.org\/\">Girls on the Run<\/a>, an organization dedicated to empowering young girls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEvery session in coaching, there were moments where a face lit up, or a girl ran further, or a team member supported another team member,\u201d says Hauser, who went on to be executive director of the New York City chapter in 2012. \u201cAll of the individual moments with the girls have shown me the power of the program.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Girls on the Run is a nonprofit after-school program that uses running as a way to inspire girls to be healthy and confident. The groundbreaking program, which has 225 local councils around the country, culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-23025\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"386\" height=\"386\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/08\/AllisonhauserHeadshot.jpg\" alt=\"Allison Hauser\" class=\"wp-image-23025\"\/><figcaption>Allison Hauser<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Founders: <\/strong>Molly Barker<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Year founded: <\/strong>1996<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Employees: <\/strong>4 fulltime staffers in the New York City area<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Where we\u2019re based: <\/strong><u>WeWork Dumbo Heights<\/u><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Moment of inspiration:<\/strong> \u201cThere was a girl I coached who had to repeat a grade, so it was amazing that she was communicative and interested in the program and running,\u201d says Hauser. \u201cThere are so many things I know supported her in her life, and I knew Girls on the Run was one of them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Biggest hurdle: \u201c<\/strong>We are continuing to grow and are just utilizing our resources,\u201d says Hauser. \u201cWe\u2019ve grown organically as people reach out to us, so we utilize all of our friends to spread the word. We\u2019ve grown as much as that allows us and now we\u2019re ready to get out there further.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How we want to change the world: \u201c<\/strong>We want to inspire every girl to feel confident and healthy and joyful,\u201d says Hauser. \u201cOur vision is every girl feeling like she can do anything she puts her mind to.
