These community health workers become professional healthcare providers who work with the mission of providing quality health care to their own people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"565\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/08\/Siobhan-Kelley-1.jpg\" alt=\"Siobhan Kelley\" class=\"wp-image-22956\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Founders: <\/strong>Marcus D. Kudee, Peter Luckow, Alphonso G. Mouwon, Raj Panjabi, Weafus Quitoe, and Amisha Raja<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Year founded:<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>2007<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Employees:&nbsp;<\/strong>Just over 300 employees<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Where we\u2019re based: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/locations\/new-york-city\/charging-bull\">WeWork Charging Bull<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Moment of inspiration: \u201c<\/strong>Our team was working in Konobo in southeastern Liberia, and the average distance to a health facility was a 14-hour walk,\u201d says Kelley. \u201cOnly in emergency cases would patients seek access to care. It was an inspirational moment for our team and really guided us as an organization. It\u2019s where our work was really honed and where we looked for inspiration to expand our work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Biggest hurdle: \u201c<\/strong>One hurdle has been the belief that it could be too difficult to reach some of these places and that it\u2019s not worth it,\u201d says Kelley. \u201cIt has been something our team has had to push against. It\u2019s very challenging to work in the world\u2019s most remote communities. There\u2019s no cellular network or Internet access and sometimes no paved roads.
