But what does Brexit mean for small businesses, especially startups, in the capital city?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We asked WeWork London members how business is going in the months after the Brexit vote. And their answers weren\u2019t quite what we expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/06\/Melody-Yeh.jpg\" alt=\"Melody Yeh\" class=\"wp-image-22816\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Melody Yeh, head of digital at <a href=\"http:\/\/emergingcomms.com\/\">Emerging Communications<\/a>, says Brexit has had a \u201cpositive impact on our business.\u201d The value of the pound has dropped significantly, but Emerging Communications\u2014specializing in marketing European brands to Chinese consumers\u2014is attracting more international customers than ever before. Specifically, she noticed that her retail clients are responding rapidly to the idea of attracting Chinese customers to the U.K.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSome of our retail clients wanted us to leverage this increasing number of Chinese visitors during the summer and autumn,\u201d says Yeh, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/locations\/london\/chancery-lane\">WeWork Chancery Lane<\/a> member. \u201cThey were ready to invest in that segment of the audience quicker than normal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For some British startups, the Brexit decision gives them an opportunity to focus on the U.S. market, which they say is unencumbered by the strict business regulations of the E.U. Nita Nicole, managing attorney of the London-based law firm <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nnulaw.com\/\">NNU Immigration<\/a>, says British entrepreneurs are excited about making the move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe sheer size of the U.S. marketplace alone will continue to make it an attractive place for Europeans and British nationals to build a presence,\u201d says Nicole, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/locations\/london\/chancery-lane\">WeWork Chancery Lane<\/a> member. \u201cIn fact, entering the international arena could actually protect British companies against the risk of decline in domestic markets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/06\/Mohamed-Aboshanab.jpg\" alt=\"Mohamed Aboshanab\" class=\"wp-image-22817\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>On the downside, Brexit means more than 90 percent of the current laws surrounding immigration will change in the next several years, says Mohamed Aboshanab, director of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.new-border.com\/\">New Border<\/a>, a London-based immigration law firm. He says his business will have to embrace the uncertainty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cE.U. nationals and companies find it very easy to do business and live in the U.K. when trading with the whole E.U. block using the same regulations,\u201d says Aboshanab, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/locations\/london\/spitalfields\">WeWork Spitalfields<\/a> member. \u201cBut after the Brexit, it\u2019s not clear which model the U.K. will adopt with the single market.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the immigration advisory, the silver lining in London\u2019s departure from the E.U. is that people will inevitably face issues entering new markets, creating more business for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMost of our clients will need to make sure that they are ready for the new regulations, and that means more work coming to us,\u201d Aboshanab says.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Britain\u2019s vote to remove itself from the European Union has already had a big impact on many major corporations with offices in London.
