Whether she was making sculptures back in college, or designing technology for women like she is currently, \u201cIt\u2019s very intensive, it\u2019s personal, it\u2019s all based on your ideas, and you\u2019re trying to make them happen,\u201d she says. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of creativity involved. So I don\u2019t really know what \u2018entrepreneur\u2019 means, actually.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though she\u2019s in London on this particular afternoon, the 27-year-old Slovenia-born entrepreneur says she\u2019s usually based somewhere between San Francisco, Zagreb, Croatia, and Shenzhen, China, where her company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellabeat.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bellabeat<\/a>\u2014which makes a \u201chealth tracker for your body and mind\u201d\u2014has offices. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/locations\/london\/old-street\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WeWork Old St<\/a>. is the latest addition, \u201cso London is pretty fresh still,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sr\u0161en and her Croatian co-founder Sandro Mur have been working on Bellabeat for roughly two and a half years\u2014in San Francisco in 2014, they were part of the Y Combinator program and raised a seed round. The Bellabeat team has boomed to 80 staffers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/07\/At-Bellabeat-a-Chic-Tracker-Looks-Like-Jewelry-Keeps-Women-Healthy2-800x571.jpg\" alt=\"At Bellabeat, a Chic Tracker Looks Like Jewelry, Keeps Women Healthy2\" class=\"wp-image-22303\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It all started with their first device: a pregnancy tracker and app that \u201callowed future moms to listen to their babies\u2019 heartbeat, record it, and share it with their loved ones,\u201d says Sr\u0161en. \u201cIt was a very emotional, very strong product. That product set us on this path of women\u2019s health.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After that came the LEAF, which focuses on a variety of health categories: sleep, activity, breathing and meditation exercises, and menstrual cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt takes a more holistic approach to quantify health, compared to Fitbit or Jawbone or similar to devices that are more fitness-oriented,\u201d says Sr\u0161en.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And by the looks of it, you\u2019d be surprised that it tracks any or all of those things, given that it\u2019s designed as a piece of jewelry\u2014made out of natural wood and silver or rose gold, depending on which model you choose. It can be worn as a necklace, bracelet, or clipped onto clothing. This is so that women <em>want<\/em> to wear the device every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/07\/At-Bellabeat-a-Chic-Tracker-Looks-Like-Jewelry-Keeps-Women-Healthy3-400x571.jpg\" alt=\"At Bellabeat, a Chic Tracker Looks Like Jewelry, Keeps Women Healthy3\" class=\"wp-image-22305\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt doesn\u2019t look like a piece of technology at all,\u201d says Sr\u0161en. \u201cThere\u2019s no screens, no flashing lights. The only communication that happens between the actual device and the user is through vibrations. There\u2019s smart alarms that notify you when you were not active enough or to wake you up gently.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The LEAF then syncs up with an app through Bluetooth, presenting you with all of the data you need, \u201cwhich you can then adjust your habits and lifestyle and understand your body better,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A huge asset to the Bellabeat team is Sr\u0161en\u2019s mom, an obstetrician and gynecologist with 30 years of experience in women\u2019s health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur beginnings were inspired by her work,\u201d says Sr\u0161en. \u201cShe\u2019s our biggest fan, and advocate, and our most valuable member.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of the Bellabeat users range from ages 19 to&nbsp;40\u2014women in various stages of their life, from puberty to menopause\u2014Sr\u0161en included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWorking in this field was a great inspiration,\u201d Sr\u0161en says. \u201cBut that was also something that I was interested in. I\u2019ve always been pretty active and into trying new things that would make me feel better, especially as my lifestyle has been quite stressful most of the time. All of our lifestyles are quite stressful usually.
