They would soon give birth within a month of each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll of these bellies were around, and I was able to see at an early age the magic and the mystery of the body,\u201d recalls Thomas, who\u2019s now a doula and prenatal wellness expert. \u201cAnd through a lens as a little kid, you don\u2019t know the things that we\u2019re taught through media. You don\u2019t see that people say it\u2019s painful. You just see it\u2019s kind of sci-fi and supernatural.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There weren\u2019t any stories about storks in her family. Thomas remembers her mother explaining it all to her at a young age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/07\/Doula-Latham-Thomas-Helps-Women-\u2018Give-Birth-to-the-Best-Generation\u20192-400x571.jpg\" alt=\"Doula Latham Thomas Helps Women \u2018Give Birth to the Best Generation\u20192\" class=\"wp-image-22193\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was always announcing wherever we went, \u2018My mother has a baby in her uterus!\u2019\u201d says Thomas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So perhaps it\u2019s no surprise that when she grew up, Thomas would want to share information about childbirth with other women. She created a space to support women during this particularly intense and rewarding milestone. It\u2019s called <a href=\"http:\/\/mamaglow.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mama Glow<\/a>, and Thomas conceived of it as a place to \u201cexperience a more luxurious and intimate experience for birthing your baby.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After receiving a dual degree from Columbia University in environmental science and visual arts, plus a certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, Thomas entered the entrepreneurial world as a consultant focused on life sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When she became pregnant with her son Fulano\u2014now a teenage DJ who has followed in his mother\u2019s entrepreneurial footsteps\u2014Thomas says the feelings she had when her mother was pregnant with her sister were \u201cawakened.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/07\/Doula-Latham-Thomas-Helps-Women-\u2018Give-Birth-to-the-Best-Generation\u20193-400x571.jpg\" alt=\"Doula Latham Thomas Helps Women \u2018Give Birth to the Best Generation\u20193\" class=\"wp-image-22195\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The only problem was that she didn\u2019t feel like she had the proper support and resources\u2014practitioners, products, and services. And if she was feeling this way living in New York, how are pregnant women in other areas of the world feeling?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHow is this the most important juncture of a woman\u2019s life, but there\u2019s no resources?\u201d she asks. \u201cIf I want to have bagels at 2 in the morning, I can get them delivered. It\u2019s so easy to do certain things that mean nothing, but then <em>this<\/em>\u2014there\u2019s no one to hold your hand.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mama Glow includes helpful tips from experts, refreshing recipes, simple beauty how-tos, and features packed with interesting research\u2014\u201cThat\u2019s really our goal: to make it this link people can share with their doctors or friends,\u201d says Thomas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The website\u2019s services range from <a href=\"http:\/\/mamaglow.com\/services\/nutrition-wellness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">nutrition and wellness<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/mamaglow.com\/services\/yoga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">yoga classes<\/a> to \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/mamaglow.com\/services\/glow-guidance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Glow Guidance<\/a>,\u201d a two-hour course for all women\u2014pregnant or not\u2014to \u201cexplore healing, personal growth, and living to their fullest potential.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked who is the typical Mama Glow reader, Thomas says, \u201ca mom who\u2019s conscientious.\u201d <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\"><br><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thomas, author of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Mama-Glow-Fabulous-Abundant-Pregnancy\/dp\/1401939201\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mama Glow: A Hip Guide to your Fabulous Abundant Pregnancy<\/a><\/em>, adds, \u201cI call her a <em>Sex in the City<\/em>-Deepak Chopra person. A Carrie Bradshaw type of woman\u2014her shoes and her handbag, but inside of her handbag, she probably has a coconut water, organic snacks, and a yoga mat tucked away some place.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/07\/Doula-Latham-Thomas-Helps-Women-\u2018Give-Birth-to-the-Best-Generation\u20194-800x571.jpg\" alt=\"Doula Latham Thomas Helps Women \u2018Give Birth to the Best Generation\u20194\" class=\"wp-image-22197\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A lot of Thomas\u2019 success is credited to her single mother, who instilled in her and her sister a \u201csense of self-worth and work ethic.\u201d Thomas says she sees that same work ethic among peers at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/locations\/new-york-city\/west-broadway\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WeWork West Broadway<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur whole thing is really helping women transform how they view their bodies and the power that they have,\u201d says Thomas. \u201cBecause I do believe that maternal satisfaction bleeds into every other area of your life.
