There\u2019s the traditional trattoria that his great-grandfather bought, and Family Sunday, where all of the uncles, aunts, and cousins gathered at Grandma Eva\u2019s house. His Nonna\u2014Italian for \u201cgrandmother\u201d\u2014as he calls her, served up fresh pasta dishes like lasagna, tagliatelle, and tortelli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI used to only eat pasta,\u201d admits Pedrelli, now 34 years old. After a morning or afternoon bike ride, he remembers Nonna saying, \u201cYou need to eat. I prepared some tagliatelle. I\u2019ll just do a quick tagliatelle for you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fast forward to Pedrelli\u2019s early adult years, after he received an international communications degree and left for Madrid. In Spain he met his wife\u2014an American who taught English\u2014and they moved together to San Francisco, where they\u2019ve been living for the past three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/06\/At-Nonna-Box-Authentic-Italian-Recipes-Delivered-to-Your-Mailbox2.jpg?resize=400%2C400\" alt=\"At Nonna Box, Authentic Italian Recipes Delivered to Your Mailbox2\" class=\"wp-image-22122\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Far away from home, Pedrelli cooks his own pasta\u2014using Nonna\u2019s recipes, of course. This got the homesick founder and digital marketing consultant at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sozialia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SoZialia<\/a> hooked on a new business plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 2015, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonnabox.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nonna Box<\/a> is a subscription-based service that sends a curated box of six gourmet Italian products\u2014made by local artisans and always from a different region\u2014to your door each month. Available only in the United States, Nonna Box allows you to \u201cexperience Italy from your home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The best part? The box contains three recipes (first course, second course, and dessert) and personal stories, all from local nonnas\u2014\u201cbecause in the end, those are the ones that are passing down the traditions,\u201d says the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/locations\/san-francisco\/golden-gate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WeWork Golden Gate<\/a> member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/06\/At-Nonna-Box-Authentic-Italian-Recipes-Delivered-to-Your-Mailbox3-400x571.jpg\" alt=\"At Nonna Box, Authentic Italian Recipes Delivered to Your Mailbox3\" class=\"wp-image-22124\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nonna Box team is lean, but mighty, currently totaling three\u2014Pedrelli is joined in the U.S. by a content manager and certified olive oil expert\u2014\u201clike a sommelier of olive oil basically,\u201d he says\u2014as well as an Italy-based sommelier who provides wine pairings for each recipe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So far, there have been seven months of Nonna Box. That\u2019s seven nonnas divulging their favorite memories and recipes, as well as seven rounds sourcing and importing the best products\u2014which is the hardest part, says Pedrelli, but also the most rewarding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cProduct quantities are always limited,\u201d he says. \u201cFor example, Nonna Box snagged the last of all U.S. importers&#8217; stock of&nbsp;pizzoccheri&nbsp;back in March, which means Nonna Box recipients were among the lucky few at the time who could get their hands on the pasta!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Same goes for April: Nonna Box costumers received a chocolate bar from an 18th-century shop in Genova where a chocolatier named Domenico&nbsp;Ghirardelli first learned how to make chocolate.
