Whether you have a brick-and-mortar location or you\u2019re operating solely on the Internet, you need to ensure that the chatter going on about you is positive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to OutboundEngine, 68 percent of consumers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.outboundengine.com\/blog\/5-ways-online-reviews-affecting-business-stats\/\">trust opinions that people write online<\/a>, and 88 percent trust these opinions just as much as they believe personal recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re in the beginning stages of your company and you want to ascertain a good online reputation, follow these tips from marketing professionals based out of WeWork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2  id=\"create-content-for-your-audience\"class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Create content for your audience<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The first step is to put out content about your company that relates to your audience. This way, you\u2019re not depending on others for press and exposure, and you\u2019re going to reach your target demographic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Melanie Eddolls, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/membership\">WeWork member<\/a> based in New York City, says, \u201cI think the best way is to create buzz, and to delight and to stand out in [customers\u2019] minds right from the get-go. So much of this depends on the product, the goal of the startup, the phases they are rolling things out, the amount of money they have, and the audience they are trying to reach.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you\u2019re writing blog posts for your website, sending out an email newsletter, or producing tweets, Snapchat messages, and Facebook posts, make sure that what you\u2019re saying is going to be appealing to your potential customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGo where your audience is and speak their language,\u201d says Eddolls. \u201cBe authentic. Then revisit them and make them brand ambassadors.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2  id=\"establish-a-paid-and-organic-social-media-presence\"class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Establish a paid and organic social media presence<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At first, you may not know where your customers are hanging out online. It\u2019s best to set up accounts on all the social media networks and create fitting content for each platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/brandfresh.com\/\">Brandfresh<\/a>\u2019s Felix Chang, who works out of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/locations\/new-york-city\/charging-bull?utm_source=ads-google&amp;utm_medium=cpc&amp;utm_term=%2Bwework%20%2Bcharging%20%2Bbull&amp;utm_campaign=l-nyc-modifier&amp;utm_content=c&amp;gclid=CO-tkZ2MkcwCFUQkhgod8rkCuA\">WeWork Charging Bull<\/a>, says that social media is \u201can excellent tool to build brand image and customer trust. Having no name is a disadvantage, but if you can build some content even before starting the business, you\u2019re pursuing the right path building your presence online.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chang points out that paid advertising on social media is effective as well. Due to the recent changes in the Facebook and Instagram algorithms, it\u2019s more difficult for brands to be seen on social media without paying for ads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSetting some budgets for social with the right target audience can get you a lot of buzz without breaking the bank,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2  id=\"dont-ignore-the-negative-posts\"class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Don\u2019t ignore the negative posts <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Negative posts are the worst. Whether or not they\u2019re true, they can cause irreparable damage to your startup\u2019s online reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eddolls deals with negative comments in a few ways. She won\u2019t engage if the poster is a heckler or a competitor. If the comment occurs in a space that her company owns, such as a Facebook page, she will delete it and then address the customer personally through a message or email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe never make excuses, or act defensively or \u2018put out,\u2019\u201d she says. \u201cI am still a believer in the old rule that \u2018the customer is always right.\u2019 Even if they are not right, it&#8217;s not a good idea to put something defensive, curt, or a long line of excuses. These are not good things to live online&nbsp;or in print, ever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Chang, you can turn these comments into something useful for your business. He says, \u201cYour negative feedback can be positive with the right attitude.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2  id=\"invest-in-systems-to-help-you-keep-track\"class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Invest in systems to&nbsp;help you keep track<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Googling yourself every single day is going to drive you nuts. Instead, try out some free and paid platforms that will show you what\u2019s going on with your startup\u2019s mentions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eddolls recommends <a href=\"https:\/\/hootsuite.com\/\">Hootsuite<\/a>, the social media management dashboard where you can view what\u2019s happening on your networks, reply to comments, receive messages, and analyze your growth. Similar services include <a href=\"https:\/\/buffer.com\/\">Buffer<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/sproutsocial.com\/\">Sprout Social.<\/a> Some of them are free, while others can cost hundreds of dollars per month for a bigger team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A more comprehensive tool that\u2019s a favorite is <a href=\"https:\/\/mention.com\/en\/\">Mention<\/a>, according to Chang. The service compiles any and all conversations about your company online. Another platform, <a href=\"https:\/\/moz.com\/tools\/fresh-web-explorer\">Fresh Web Explorer<\/a> by Moz, allows you to see mentions, and research and compare your links to those of your competitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Building your online reputation takes a while. It\u2019s an investment that doesn\u2019t happen immediately.
