Virgin Atlantic<\/a>\u00a0founder Richard Branson believes that business is not just about making money\u2014it\u2019s also about doing good in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMost businesses have a purpose in themselves,\u201d Branson said during \u201cBusiness Is an Adventure<\/a>,\u201d a panel discussion sponsored by, Virgin atlantic, General Assembly, and WeWork<\/a>. \u201cBut if you\u2019ve got a choice of a business to make money for a country run by a wicked dictator, or a business to make money in Ghana not run by a wicked dictator, choose Ghana. If you\u2019re going to spend your time running your life, try to make sure you\u2019re really proud of what you\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joining Branson on stage at the event on February 18 in Downtown Los Angeles were several other business trailblazers: Miguel McKelvey of WeWork, Sean Rad of Tinder, and Cassey Ho of Blogilates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are three key takeaways from Branson about how to view businesses and ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. \u201cBusiness is not about dollars and cents.\u201d<\/strong> Branson says it\u2019s about creating something that\u2019s going to make a positive difference in people\u2019s lives. The best part, he says, is creating something you can be proud of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. \u201cIf you have a good idea, you\u2019ll always find someone to fund you.\u201d <\/strong>He advises entrepreneurs to tell their story on the Internet. There, they can find people who love the idea and connect them with others willing to invest in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. \u201cIf you have an idea, you shouldn\u2019t just think of your own country. Think of the world as one country.\u201d<\/strong> He says it gives you freedom to enter each market and make your product your own unique thing. Instead of universally licensing the product in each country, when you go there yourself, you\u2019ll find you have a better profit margin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for the future, Branson says he envisions more companies investing in projects that make a positive impact on people around the globe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn Africa, there are 600 million people who don\u2019t have any clean energy,\u201d Branson says. \u201cCompanies are starting to emerge and need to start giving them clean energy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
