But little did these dormmates know that they found in each other a future business partner. Today, the two 25-year-olds are at the helm of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kentandbond.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kent &amp; Bond<\/a>, an organic men\u2019s grooming brand launched in August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI started out in biomed and quickly realized that I didn\u2019t want to be a doctor,\u201d says Bond. He switched to marketing, and post graduation delved into wholesale management with positions at Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Santin, who studied accounting, later earned a master\u2019s in sustainability management at Columbia and worked in tech consulting. They both had an entrepreneurial itch, and when Bond found an organic soap at a farmer\u2019s market that soon became his go-to, they had a venture to pursue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe quickly realized that nobody was making organic products marketed for men,\u201d Bond says. \u201cEverything was really geared towards women.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With that intel in mind, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/locations\/new-york-city\/wall-street?utm_source=ads-google&amp;utm_medium=cpc&amp;utm_term=%2Bwework%20%2Bwall%20%2Bstreet&amp;utm_campaign=New%20York%20-%20Modifier&amp;gclid=CjwKEAiA8K20BRDetNv3p6DNhXwSJADSwa3tsFcg_9hZM8uKi0kxWCyWLzDKvmlfA2gx0wCtlDzHhxoC0KHw_wcB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WeWork Wall Street<\/a>&nbsp;members began researching the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/01\/For-the-Well-Groomed-Man-a-Little-All-Natural-Pampering2-800x571.jpg\" alt=\"For the Well-Groomed Man, a Little All-Natural Pampering2\" class=\"wp-image-18683\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe ordered a ton of products, and raw ingredients, and just started testing,\u201d Santin says. Taking note of textures, scents, packaging, and branding, it was a fun, albeit time-consuming endeavor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEventually we started playing with formulas and working with industry experts to develop them,\u201d Santin adds. \u201cThis is what we breathed all night and every weekend for 10 months.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By September 2015, they had both left their corporate jobs to focus on Kent &amp; Bond full-time, financing the company with personal savings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Available at the brand\u2019s e-commerce shop and New York-based retailers such as health and grooming shop Thompson Chemists and men\u2019s boutique Onassis, the United States-made Kent &amp; Bond product line includes soap, shower gel, beard oil, deodorant, and a moisturizing salve. Ingredients read like a list of nature\u2019s most coveted offerings: shea butter, coconut oil, aloe vera, and peppermint, to name a few. The top sellers? The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kentandbond.com\/products\/charcoal-pine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pumice-infused charcoal pine exfoliating soap<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kentandbond.com\/products\/organic-deodorant\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tea tree oil-based deodorant<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/01\/For-the-Well-Groomed-Man-a-Little-All-Natural-Pampering3-800x571.jpg\" alt=\"For the Well-Groomed Man, a Little All-Natural Pampering3\" class=\"wp-image-18684\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As Bond and Santin strategize a future for the company, which they hope includes expansion to major U.S. cities and contracts with big-name retailers (they\u2019re currently in talks with Whole Foods), the two are back and forth between the warehouse space they ship from in Long Island City and their downtown office. They secured the latter as winners of the 2015 <a href=\"http:\/\/hennessy.create.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hennessy V.S.O.P. Privil\u00e8ge Lab<\/a>, a partnership between Hennessy and WeWork that awarded them a one-year lease and mentorship from seasoned business professionals. Aside from two desks, a display of products, and a few boxes (all filled with more products), the space is sparse. Not surprising given that they just moved in, though in a way it reflects the company\u2019s lean operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBecause it is just the two of us, we wear every hat you possibly can imagine,\u201d says Santin. \u201cWe\u2019re the guys who put the soap in the boxes, who label the boxes, and who ship the boxes. We deal with customer service. We\u2019re our own lawyers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The payoff, they say, is the unrivaled satisfaction of being their own boss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRight now we work crazy hours,\u201d says Bond, \u201cbut it\u2019s offset by this certain amount of freedom.
