She perfectly captured what everyone is thinking when she asked, \u201cWhere is the dislike button, Mark Zuckerberg? It\u2019s me, grammar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s true. Grammar and misspellings on social media are simply unconscionable. There\u2019s a real difference between \u201ctheir\u201d and \u201cthere,\u201d and it\u2019s important to know what that is. On a personal note, I would also like to request that anyone who earnestly uses the hashtag #blessed be removed from the digital world indefinitely.<\/p>\n<p>How does this relate to your company\u2019s social media strategy? Yes, the social media strategy for your company is going to be quite different from the one for your personal Facebook account, but the things that annoy people are the same.<\/p>\n<p>Time to find out if your company\u2019s committing some serious social media no-nos.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">1. Improper use of trending hashtags<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Check the context on those hashtags.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2014, Twitter went crazy after NFL player Ray Rice made headlines for beating his wife. Thousands of women opened up about their experiences in abusive relationships using the hashtag #WhyIStayed. In an attempt to hijack a trending hashtag they knew nothing about, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adweek.com\/adfreak\/digiorno-really-really-sorry-about-its-tweet-accidentally-making-light-domestic-violence-159998\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DiGiorno\u2019s pizza tweeted<\/a> this: #WhyIStayed You had pizza<em>.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This is #unpardonable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Silence in the face of criticism<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can\u2019t ignore it.<\/p>\n<p>The type of negative feedback you receive\u2014a straight problem, constructive criticism, or a form of venting and\/or complaining\u2014helps you determine how to respond, but the point is, you always respond. The only time negative feedback doesn\u2019t require a response is when it comes from an angry troll, or someone who deliberately posts provocative messages with the intention of causing complete and utter annihilation.<\/p>\n<p>On the contrary, don\u2019t pull a 180 with your consumers and deliver a lengthy Twitter rant\u2014like <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Tinder\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tinder<\/a> did after the <em>Vanity Fair<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/culture\/2015\/08\/tinder-hook-up-culture-end-of-dating\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article<\/a> \u201cTinder and the Dawn of the &#8216;Dating Apocalypse\u2019\u201d came out\u2014because you\u2019ll just have to apologize later.<\/p>\n<p>And you\u2019ll look stupid.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">3. Begging for likes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is a great way to lose followers (and credibility).<\/p>\n<p>Social media is an engagement tool\u2014not a broadcasting channel. Begging for likes or blatantly asking consumers to like, share, and comment on your content in order to increase engagement is not cool.<\/p>\n<p>This goes back to strategy: Your content should help build a fan base with a genuine interest in your brand. This doesn\u2019t mean you should stop pushing for engagement; it means you should figure out where your consumers talk and create content they want to talk about.<\/p>\n<p>Feeling stuck?
