{"id":3000028053,"date":"2021-02-03T12:13:29","date_gmt":"2021-02-03T17:13:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/ideas\/?post_type=news&#038;p=3000028053"},"modified":"2021-11-17T10:25:33","modified_gmt":"2021-11-17T15:25:33","slug":"wework-survey-reveals-impact-of-remote-learning-on-higher-education-students","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/ideas\/newsroom-landing-page\/wework-survey-reveals-impact-of-remote-learning-on-higher-education-students","title":{"rendered":"WeWork Survey Reveals Impact of Remote Learning on Higher Education Students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New York, NY<\/strong>, \u2014WeWork, in partnership with research and strategy firm brightspot strategy, has today released the results of a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wework.com\/info\/full-report-the-impact-of-covid-19-on-the-university-student-experience\">survey<\/a> that holistically assess the student experience during the Fall 2020 semester following the onset of COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Higher education has undergone a dramatic transformation during the COVID-19 pandemic. While the pandemic largely sent students home to engage with new or revamped online learning platforms in the Spring of 2020, the Fall semester brought a range of responses.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Higher education institutions pursued a mix of in-person, hybrid and online models as they struggled to balance demands to reopen with the ability to de-densify and keep students safe, and the new WeWork survey assessed the impact of those different models on students.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey polled 400 undergraduate students from these different models across the country and found:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Overall student satisfaction declined 27 percent in Fall 2020, compared to Spring 2020 (the onset of COVID-19).&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Fully online students are half as satisfied as compared to fully in-person students<\/strong> (35 percent satisfied versus 69 percent satisfied), while hybrid students, with a mixture of in-person and online classes, are 67 percent satisfied. Students attending classes fully in-person are 15 percent more likely to rate their academics as \u201cfar above average\u201d this semester compared to fully online students.<\/li><li><strong>The two most important reasons students value campus \u2014 \u201cin-person classes\u201d and \u201cbeing together with friends\u201d \u2014 are areas of the student experience that have seen the greatest decline <\/strong>from Spring 2020 to Fall 2020.<\/li><li><strong>Students\u2019 assessments of their academic growth, personal growth, and community experiences have dropped between 14 and 21 percent on average <\/strong>from Spring 2020 to Fall 2020.<strong> <\/strong>Specifically, students reported a 23 percent drop in \u201cfeeling engaged in my coursework,\u201d and a 20 percent drop in \u201cworking on long-term projects.&#8221;<\/li><li><strong>On average, students would choose to allocate the majority of tuition (59 percent) toward non-class expenditures<\/strong> (including access to technology and campus facilities), and the minority (41 percent) toward classes.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey is representative of undergraduate students enrolled in bachelor\u2019s degree programs across the United States. These students attended primarily public and private four-year institutions, with a strong representation from research institutions.
