Expert Advice: James Stephan-Usypchuk’s three ways to generate leads with Facebook Ads

Based in WeWork Place Ville Marie, the former graphic designer was always interested in the link between visual media and how people interact with it. With a background in psychology and consumer behavior, he started out working on social media content for a hockey company and saw “phenomenal results.”

After opening his own agency, Stephan-Usypchuk became well known as a social media guru who was “white labeled by other ad agencies” to help their clientele generate leads through Facebook ads.

JSU Solutions, a digital marketing agency, is rapidly growing within the WeWork community, adding to its staff and doubling its revenue from last year.

“We started as a two-person office, but upgraded to a three-person,” Stephan-Usypchuk says. “We are now upgrading to 20.”

Stephan-Usypchuk says he advises clients to grow their companies with these three tips.

1. Understand your buyers’ persona. If you’re a startup selling a service or a product, “the biggest mistake is not doing a buyer persona,” says Stephan-Usypchuk, saying you should jot down who you think your target audience is. “If you understand the person you’re marketing to,” he says, “you’ll be able to market what they like to see.”

2. Create content that doesn’t feel like ads. If an ad is effective, your customers are willing to share its content. “Make sure your ad is less about the brand, and more about telling a story,” says Stephan-Usypchuk. “You’re presenting the lifestyle and values of the brand, and everything else is secondary. You’re not trying to sell a product. You’re selling what happens when you have the product.”

3. Retarget your potential buyers. The more you reach out to potential customers, the more you warm them up, says Stephan-Usypchuk. But make sure you aren’t sending them the same content over and over again. That way, they’ll feel engaged and interested. “The kind of bond that’s hard to find is one where they feel taken care of,” says Stephan-Usypchuk.
