Seven after-work bars to hit up in Philly

Breaking out of the office after work and hitting up a local watering hole with colleagues and friends is one of life’s great pleasures. As the top city in the U.S. for millennials to relocate, Philadelphia teems with exciting bars and restaurants. Kick back at these happy hour spots— some of the city’s best.

Oyster House

With $1 oysters, $3 shooters, and $3 drafts, the 5 to 7 PM Buck-a-Shuck happy hour at Oyster House is always bustling. A young crowd gathers here to mix, mingle, and enjoy one of Philly’s few seafood-dedicated spots.

José Pistola’s

Out-of-the-box tacos fuel crowds at this popular happy hour spot just off the Avenue of the Arts. For meat lovers: cheesesteak tacos. Vegetarians: brussels sprout tacos. Gourmands: lobster tacos. Margaritas are the go-to drink at José Pistolas, and pitchers are $10 off during happy hour.

Frankford Hall

The indoor-outdoor space at Frankford Hall looks like a Hollywood set. Fire pits blaze outside while 20-somethings play Ping-Pong inside. Groups spread out on picnic tables with giant steins of beer and German fare.

Graffiti Bar

Part of the cachet of Graffiti Bar is finding it. Down the narrowest of alleys, behind the pan-Asian restaurant Sampan, the year-round patio bar is surrounded by graffiti-covered walls and serves the party crowd.

La Colombe

The line between coffee shop and liquor den is thin at La Colombe’s flagship shop in transitioning Fishtown, thanks to the on-site distillery churning out coffee-infused rum. A daily happy hour from 5 to 7 PM brings half-price drinks and snacks.

Monk’s Café

The spot that put Philadelphia on the Belgian beer map serves an encyclopedic list of brews and boasts a serious mussels menu. The central location near Rittenhouse Square makes Monk’s Café a top stop.

Kraftwork

At Kraftwork, a hip bar designed by a local sculptor, the daily Lucky 7 menu during the 4 to 6 PM happy hour offers beer flights, a burger, house cocktails, cheesesteak, foie gras spring rolls, margherita flatbread, and vegan banh mi for $7. A short walk or ride from the WeWork office in Northern Liberties.
