You may have heard stats like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbre.us\/global\/agile-real-estate\/what-millennials-really-want-in-the-workplace\">70 percent of millennials<\/a> would trade various benefits for a better workspace. Or how millennials need to feel connected to their company\u2019s mission and do work that has real impact. But they\u2019re not the only ones who feel that way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les baby-boomers et la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration\u00a0X se tournent maintenant vers la prochaine \u00e9tape de leur carri\u00e8re. Comme les employ\u00e9s de la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration\u00a0Y, ils recherchent un travail  servant une cause et qui soit significatif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet most workplaces are not meeting these needs\u2014and the results are alarming.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/231668\/dismal-employee-engagement-sign-global-mismanagement.aspx\">Eighty-five percent of employees are not engaged<\/a>\u00a0at work.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inc.com\/wanda-thibodeaux\/51-percent-of-workers-are-looking-for-a-new-job-heres-where-bosses-are-going-wrong.html\">Fifty-one percent are looking for another job<\/a>. Those numbers indicate a crisis when you calculate the cost of lost productivity and turnover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C&rsquo;est pourquoi les entreprises doivent imp\u00e9rativement mettre l&rsquo;accent sur l&rsquo;esprit de communaut\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Strong personal connections at work can be the difference between a disengaged or highly engaged employee. Even though we\u2019re moving toward a more flexible world, where people can work remotely and have control over their hours and workspaces,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrdive.com\/news\/a-majority-of-employees-prefer-working-in-the-office-but-remote-work-rema\/522725\/\">the majority of people still prefer to come into the office<\/a><\/em>. We can\u2019t help it\u2014the desire for belonging is a basic human instinct. People like connecting with their colleagues face-to-face. They\u2019re\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2017\/08\/having-work-friends-can-be-tricky-but-its-worth-it\">happier when they have a close work friend<\/a>\u2014no matter how old they are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ceux qui occupent des postes de dirigeants doivent penser \u00e0 renforcer l&rsquo;esprit de communaut\u00e9. Nous devons offrir des exp\u00e9riences et des environnements qui incitent les gens \u00e0 tisser des liens solides, et o\u00f9 ils sentent qu&rsquo;ils peuvent \u00eatre eux-m\u00eames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I had the opportunity to host the panel \u201cNavigating Uncertainty by Building Community and Curating Experience\u201d at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.corenetglobal.org\/attend\/BostonSummit2018\/2018BostonContent.aspx?ItemNumber=37749\">CoreNet Global Summit in Boston<\/a>. With panelists Tido Pesenti, director of global real estate and finance, Airbnb; Jim Tousignant, director, portfolio management, Verizon Global Real Estate; and Lakshmi Rengarajan, director of workplace connection, WeWork; we discussed how they\u2019re intentionally designing their workplaces to foster community and connections. The strategies they shared are both valuable and inspiring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2  id=\"airbnb-putting-the-global-community-front-and-center\"class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Airbnb: putting the global community front and center<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbnb.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Airbnb (opens in a new tab)\">Airbnb<\/a>\u2019s mission is to create a world where anyone can belong anywhere. The company believes that by fostering interactions between people from different countries, there will be more respect among cultures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cette mission guide son approche \u00ab\u00a0ext\u00e9rieur-int\u00e9rieur\u00a0\u00bb qui encourage l&rsquo;esprit de communaut\u00e9 entre les employ\u00e9s. Les magnifiques maisons annonc\u00e9es sur la plateforme d&rsquo;Airbnb ont inspir\u00e9 le design de la salle de conf\u00e9rence et des bureaux de l&rsquo;entreprise. Des portraits en noir et blanc d&rsquo;h\u00f4tes Airbnb, les \u00ab\u00a0h\u00e9ros\u00a0\u00bb de la marque, selon Pesenti, agr\u00e9mentent les murs des bureaux, accompagn\u00e9s de l&rsquo;histoire personnelle de chacun d&rsquo;entre eux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour renforcer l&rsquo;esprit de communaut\u00e9, Airbnb offre des repas sant\u00e9 ainsi que des s\u00e9ances d&rsquo;exercices en groupe sur place. L&rsquo;entreprise sait que les employ\u00e9s manquent de temps, et esp\u00e8re ainsi contribuer \u00e0 r\u00e9duire les tensions pour augmenter leur bonheur. De plus, Airbnb organise des s\u00e9ances de discussions \u00ab\u00a0au coin du feu\u00a0\u00bb avec des ma\u00eetres \u00e0 penser comme Al\u00a0Gore et Sheryl\u00a0Sandberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2  id=\"verizon-connecting-hospitality-and-community\"class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Verizon: connecting hospitality and community<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0L&rsquo;\u00e9poque \u00e0 laquelle la r\u00e9duction des co\u00fbts se faisait au d\u00e9triment de l&rsquo;exp\u00e9rience des employ\u00e9s est r\u00e9volue\u00a0\u00bb, pr\u00e9cise Tousignant. Il y a maintenant une volont\u00e9 de cr\u00e9er des environnements qui inspirent l&rsquo;hospitalit\u00e9 et le confort, afin de montrer aux employ\u00e9s que l&rsquo;entreprise a leur bien-\u00eatre \u00e0 c\u0153ur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chez Verizon, cette volont\u00e9 se manifeste diff\u00e9remment selon l&#8217;emplacement. \u00c0 Boston, o\u00f9 Verizon construit un nouveau bureau, les commer\u00e7ants des alentours sont per\u00e7us comme des membres de la communaut\u00e9. Les employ\u00e9s peuvent donc sortir chercher \u00e0 manger dans un restaurant local, profiter des boutiques ou encore s&rsquo;entra\u00eener dans un gym ou un studio du coin. Dans les endroits o\u00f9 il y a peu de commerces de ce genre \u00e0 proximit\u00e9, Verizon implante l&rsquo;exp\u00e9rience directement sur son site, comme au nouveau complexe d&rsquo;Irving, au Texas, o\u00f9 Verizon a invit\u00e9 des restaurants, des magasins et un h\u00f4tel \u00e0 se joindre \u00e0 sa communaut\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Verizon trouve aussi d&rsquo;autres moyens d&rsquo;instaurer un esprit de communaut\u00e9 parmi ses employ\u00e9s\u00a0: l&#8217;emplacement d&rsquo;Irving, par exemple, comprend un espace de co-travail dans lequel les entreprises technologiques en d\u00e9marrage et les entreprises\u00a05G peuvent collaborer avec les employ\u00e9s de Verizon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2  id=\"wework-moving-from-meeting-to-connecting\"class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>WeWork: moving from &lsquo;meeting&rsquo; to &lsquo;connecting&rsquo;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/ideas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/04\/Web_72DPI-20190118-WeWork-Shanghai-Tower-Common-Areas-Couch-Area-5-800x571.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-832\" \/><figcaption>Employees connecting at WeWork. Photograph by Anthony Reed<br><br><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>WeWork est probablement la seule entreprise ayant un poste de \u00ab\u00a0directeur du r\u00e9seautage au travail\u00a0\u00bb, qui s&rsquo;av\u00e8re pourtant n\u00e9cessaire. C&rsquo;est pourquoi je suis fier de compter Lakshmi\u00a0Rengarajan, la directrice du r\u00e9seautage au travail de WeWork, parmi mes coll\u00e8gues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Au cours de notre table ronde, elle a expliqu\u00e9 que \u00ab\u00a0WeWork fait du r\u00e9seautage une habitude\u00a0\u00bb. Ainsi, son r\u00f4le est d&rsquo;assurer que les nouveaux employ\u00e9s de WeWork sentent qu&rsquo;ils font partie de la communaut\u00e9 d\u00e8s le premier jour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rengarajan cherche \u00e0 faire passer les gens de la rencontre au r\u00e9seau. Lors de la \u00ab\u00a0rencontre\u00a0\u00bb d&rsquo;une personne , on doit souvent discuter de banalit\u00e9s. La conversation a une fonction d\u2019\u00e9change et s\u2019av\u00e8re \u00e9prouvante. Dans un \u00ab\u00a0r\u00e9seau\u00a0\u00bb, en revanche, la relation passe \u00e0 un autre niveau. La conversation permet de raconter des histoires, de venir en aide \u00e0 l&rsquo;autre, de rire, de tisser des liens autour d&rsquo;un objectif commun, et d&rsquo;en apprendre davantage sur le pass\u00e9 de l&rsquo;autre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour r\u00e9ussir la transition, Rengarajan recommande de poser des questions qui ne concernent pas d&rsquo;extr\u00eames (c.-\u00e0-d., la notion de \u00ab\u00a0meilleur\u00a0\u00bb ou de \u00ab\u00a0pire\u00a0\u00bb)\u00a0: ce que l&rsquo;on recherche se trouve entre les deux. Par exemple, plut\u00f4t que de demander \u00e0 l\u2019autre son livre pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9, demandez-lui quel est le livre que tout le monde devrait lire selon lui. Vous serez surpris de voir ce que vous pouvez apprendre simplement en faisant ce changement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2  id=\"%c3%a9valuer-lavenir-du-travail\"class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u00c9valuer l&rsquo;avenir du travail<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Je suis convaincu que l&rsquo;avenir du travail sera \u00e9valu\u00e9 en rapport au bien-\u00eatre des employ\u00e9s.
